FAQ's

General Farm Questions:

Are you on Social Media?

We love social media. This is our way to communicate with our community while we are hard at work on the farm. We love sharing all the wonders and colors of the harvest on Instagram.

Can I visit the farm?

Unfortunately we do not accept visitors at this time. In order to keep the animals healthy and the food safe on the farm, we practice what is called Biosecurity. By using these safety precautions, we make sure the animals, and all your food, are safe from any harmful bacteria or diseases.

Can I buy items online and pickup at the Farmers Market?

Yes, most definitely. We are just setting up the website for the first time this year, so if you are having any problems, or notice any glitches, please email us right away so we can have that taken care of. As for picking up your goodies at the market, you can ensure your item will be there when you arrive. We only post what is available online, so that there are no confusions, and you get the freshest possible foods.

What Farm Markets do you attend?

We plan on attending Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids, Michigan. However, we are still planning any others that we may attend this year. Stay tuned.

Is your farm Certified Organic?

We are actually in the process of becoming Certified Organic. Until that is complete, we cannot state that we have organic available. All of our practices here on the farm promote natural growing and farming methods.

I want you to come to my area. How can I get you closer to me or set up a closer pickup location?

Great! Please let us know either by emailing us or giving us a friendly call. We would love to hear from you.

I cant make it to the farm market on the dates you attend. Can I still buy from your farm?

We are still in the process of figuring out farm market dates and pickup locations. If you want to suggest an area that we have not yet announced, please send us a friendly email. We would love to hear your ideas.

What is the "Farm Family"?

We are not just a farm, but a community. When you buy anything from Brokaw Family Farms (BFF), we consider you part of our Farm Family. You are important to us, and we treat you just like we would treat our own family. You mean the world to us so please, say hello to us at the market, feel free to send emails, even if you just want to chit chat. That's what families do after all. Welcome home

CSA Questions:

What is a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture is a seasonal contract between the farmer and the member. You purchase a share of the season’s harvest in advance. Your investment plays a major roll in supporting farmers at the leaner time of the year. CSA’s help pay for the seeds, soil amendments, and tools at the beginning of the farming season, when a majority of the spending happens all at once. In return, we commit to providing you with healthy, locally grown food throughout the growing season. This helps to ensure the longevity of small farms, while also reconnecting people to the land that helps to sustain them.

When does your farm CSA Start? End?

Our Summer CSA starts mid-June and goes till late October. 20 weeks in total. The Winter CSA is still in the planning process.

Do you offer Half Shares?

As this is our first season doing CSA, we do not offer half shares. If you would like us to add the half share option for next year, please email us and let us know.

Is there a limit to how many shares I can sign up for?

You may purchase as many shares as your family needs. Please keep in mind that shares are limited, so if you want to purchase a few shares, sign up early before the spaces run out. Once shares are sold out, we cannot add any more.

What if I miss a week for my CSA pickup?

If you miss a week, please let us know as soon as you can. We can either bring your share to the next farm market pickup, or double your next weeks pickup.

What happens if I go on Vacation?

Please let us know ahead of time so we can prepare. We can either double your next weeks pickup or refund you for that week. You are allowed three refunds per year.

Can I sign up for a CSA share midseason?

Signups for CSA seasons only last a limited time. Once the season begins, or shares are sold out, signups are no longer accepted. Golden ticket CSAs may be purchased mid season, as long as shares are still available.

How do I pay for my CSA share?

CSAs can be purchased during signup times. Payments are due upon signup. No payment plans are offered at this time but may be offered on a later season. If you are interested in having a payment plan option, please feel free to contact us.

Where are the CSA pickup Locations?

CSAs pickups are during any of our market times. Its as simple as showing up to market, signing your name at the checkout area and picking up your already assembled share.

Do you deliver?

We do not deliver at this time, but are very open to the idea. If you are interested in getting deliveries in your area, please contact us. We would love to hear from you.

What kind of CSA's do you offer?

At this moment, BFF offers two different CSA types, a weekly vegetable share and a "golden ticket" CSA. The Vegetable CSA offers Fresh produce every week for a 20-week season. The Golden Ticket share is a credit towards anything in stock at the farmers market. More CSA options will be added in the Spring of 2020.

Can I Gift a CSA membership to somebody?

Gifting a CSA is very possible. In fact, almost half of our CSA shares are gifted from a friend. When you sign up, all you need to do is click the "this is a gift" option and fill in your their information as well. Ta-da. Super Simple.
